The Rockford Lions Club proudly
congratulate Arielle Schaffer, a student of North Middle School, and
her teacher, Onalee Cady, for winning both their school and our
Lions District competition in the 19th Annual Lions International
Peace Poster Contest.
Arielle crafted a delicately
configured poster in soft pastels titled "Wings of Peace' to
meet the required theme of "Peace without Borders. This
international competition, sponsored by Lions International, is open
to students 11 - 13 years old and challenges them to
express their thoughts on peace, tolerance and international
understanding in their own unique, creative manner.
While the international
competition was won by thirteen year old, Dipannita Banik,
representing the Calcutta, India Lions Club, Arielle, her
poster and her family will be feted this March at the Western
Michigan Lions' Multi-District Convention.

A great big thank-you goes out to everyone who contributed towards the
success of "Project Night 2005". Hosted by the Grand Rapids
Lions Club and attended by 192 members representing 32 clubs from 7
districts, checks and pledges of support in abundance of $42,000 were
received for district projects.
Featured speakers Bill Hansen of Leader Dogs for the Blind (Rochester,
MI) and Warren Sibilla of the Lions of Michigan Foundation presented
compelling messages, encouraging and reaffirming our Lions commitment
to serve the needs of our communities and the vision-impaired.
